Improve the frontal crashworthiness of vehicle through the design of front rail

Front rail is a key assembly for the frontal impact of vehicle. In this work, based on information benchmark vehicles and high-strength steels, front rails are designed to improve crash performance vehicle reduce its structural mass (SM). First, finite element analysis (FEA) carried out, dynamic drop testings performed verify accuracy model. Then, sectional dimensions, materials thicknesses ten models studied, crashworthiness these obtained by FEA. Next, models, three with representative sizes through mesh deformation. By experimental design FEA, response surface (RSMs) constructed. Based multi-objective artificial tree (MOAT) algorithm, optimized goals minimize SM maximize mean crushing force (MCF). The optimal schemes obtained. These applied full barrier sport utility (SUV) model, model improved significantly. Since selection materials, dimensions bases engineering practice cases, in work can be directly actual brief, has significant practical value.
